I'm flying off to college soon, so today I shipped some of my stuff out there (like my violin) in boxes. And I was thinking about how expensive it was, and how there's risk and I'm afraid my violin might break, etc. etc. And I was thinking that I'm really not in a rush to get my packages delivered, but yet they're putting them in the same truck as all the other packages with sort of a speedy delivery and charging me pretty much the same rate.And then I was thinking of how expensive traveling can be, what with gas and hotels and all.
And then I was thinking, well what if there was a business that let travelers pick up a few extra bucks to sort of pad the expense of traveling by transporting and dropping off packages as they travel? It might have lower costs for some types of packages than say, UPS would, because the deliverers would be heading to their destinations anyway, probably with some unused extra space, and it wouldn't take too much money to make it worth their while to take a little detour and pick up and drop off a package or two.
Is there a business like that which exists already? Do you think such a business could work? Would you trust your packages to such a company if the rates were low enough and proper safeguards were put in place to ensure the trustworthiness of the driver, and to compensate you should misfortune befall your package? Would you consider delivering for such a company and make a few extra bucks as you travel?

Absurd as this sounds, it is not nearly as absurd as filipino's who embarass credibility with silly talk about how filipinos may someday cry to the hollow, toothless, ASEAN talkshop of diplomats about soviergnty over filipino territory now aggressively claimed by China. Please don't confuse immaginary ASEAN military planning conferences and cocktail parties with the EU, who has real military coordination, treaties, integration, hardware, assets, bases, fighting units, and are deployed in dozens of missions worldwide. The only credible response to military defense is having capability, which is something that filipinos seem oblivious to.The USA NAVY has several surplus minesweepers built in the mid 1990's, in active use up until a few years ago, so they are fairly seaworthy. These are small ships, with a crew of about 50, that could be used as patrol boats or other roles, and are similar in size to other ships in the AFP Navy. Having several of the same class ships would be an advantage in maintenance and operation. These ships are now all designated for disposal or for transfer to foriegn navies:

Would it not make good economic and military sense for the AFP to renovate these ships in the underused shipyards of Subic, create skilled jobs, employment, etc.. while enhancing the AFP defense abilities?

My wife gives me a quick kiss and leaves without another word! She arrives back down 3 hours later. She has met 'David' and tells me how good looking and charming he is! I tried so hard for my Ancient Rome economy essay ( 13 years old) and my social studies teacher said it was good but she reduced my marks because she assumed i copied and pasted. Now, another girl in my class who did copy and paste, ( which i saw and she admitted openly) got a higher mark than me. Should i tell the teacher for what she has done? The economy of the early Republic was primarily focused on farming and trading. Agricultural trading developed in Italy and by the 1st Century BC a diversity of olives and grapes was produced. While North Africa supplied a variety of grains the Roman’s main exports were olive oil and wine. Ancient Rome was a slave based society whose main concern was to feed the immense population of citizens.
Farmers donated financial tax to the government allowing both the Republican and Imperial leaders to gain popularity as well as being able to feed the people at no monetary cost. Unfortunately this left the farmers with little incentive to produce more crops as producing more crops translated to paying more taxes.
While the transportation of foods controlled the trading production there was also a vast exchange of other goods including farm products, livestock, silk from China, wild animals from Africa and many more from all parts of Europe, Asia and Africa.
The currency of the Republic consisted of coins including the aureus, (gold) denarius, (silver) sestertius (bronze) and dupondius (copper). They were used from approximately the middle of the third century BC until the third century AD. The coins circulated throughout the Empire and even beyond – some being found in India. The value of a single, copper coin was equivalent to a pound of copper only weighing less.
The imagery of the coins only became of an importance when Julius Caesar beared his own portrait on coins. Julius was the first living individual to have his portrait issued on the coins, prior to that, it was with the portraits of ancestors. The exact reason the Roman coinage system debased constantly is unknown but common theories involve trading with India.
The largest industry in Ancient Rome was mining, which provided large stones for large building developments, weapons and tools that conquered the ancient west. Italy provided marble for the structures. Cities and towns established pottery, glassware, weapons, tools and jewellery.
For military and transportations use, the Romans became skilled at constructing roads. They were necessary for their empire, as roads allowed the army to move rapidly, as well as transporting cattle and vehicles. The roads expanded to over 400,000km over the years, were created such as; vehicles were forbidden in urban areas except for the exception of married women and business men.
Trade by land was only convenient if good were being transported in short distances, sometimes hauled by labour slaves. Most large goods such as foods, metals, stone and building supplies were shipped. The Roman navy, under Augustus was in threat as the severe weather, imprecise charts and bad navigation equipment could wreck on the voyage. Yet, despite the dangers, there was no better way trading cargo than by sea.
The foundation of slavery in Ancient Rome covered up to 20% of the entire population (no less than 53,000 people). Those held in this position were less of a person in the legal system and weren’t entitled to marry. A slave’s price varied on their capability and skills. For example a slave trained in medicine was worth 50 agricultural slaves. They were the property of their owners and they yearned for freedom and escape. By the late republic the economy was reliant on slaves for both skilled and unskilled.
Free citizens of Ancient Rome were divided into two classes; Patricians and Plebeians. These two classes were forbidden to intermarry and were categorized into their groups since birth. Although not impossible, it was highly difficult for the lower class to emerge into the higher social class. The distinction between the two classes was mainly based on wealth. The man in the family ‘owned’ his family, children and slaves just as he owned his swords and was entitled to control them as he wished. Women gained respect from their husbands or son.

Hello , I was looking around at Yacht design plans for fashioning one out of steel , aluminum, fiberglass etc. and was wondering when you start building them at like 70+ feet with a 20ft beam, where do you build them? 2. People who drive old cars worth less than $2000 do so because they do not have much money. They therefore cannot afford a new car As the price difference is around $18,000.
3. All cheap new cars in Australia are imported from Asia.
4. The amount of fuel burnt up by the ship transporting a car from Asia and the fact that you have to scrap the old car, means that the saving on pollution is questionable.

The International Mars Space Ship. (IMSS)Just like the International space station was made. Many countries would contribute to the construction of the IMSS.
The ship would be built on the moon. We would first hav to make a factory on the moon that can be remotely controlled from earth.
Components contributed by various countries would be launched to the moon and assembled by the remotely controlled factory.
Oxygen generation systems, food supply, and health kits would be later launched.
Human presence would not be needed. The moon factory would serve as a platform for future projects.
This would be the fastest and most efficient way to get to mars. It would be cost efficient since many countries would participate. Launch of lego piece components would not require new transport vehicles. WN

Suketsu- Compared to each nation trying to get to Mars independently, a combined effort is the most efficient plan. Such things are never cheap or easy.

Say one was moving to Alaska from Washington State. That person would like to drive the Alaskan Highway to get there. This person also owns many guns, some of which are not legal in Canada. What would be the best means of getting said guns into the state?I know they can be shipped to a FFL dealer in Alaska but the thought of being without a firearm while camping alongside the road is not very reassuring. Is there any way to bring along, oh say a 10 mm Glock, without it being confiscated either at the boarder or by some RCMP officer?

Can the US Marines us the US Navy SH-60 Seahawk for Transportation?I know the Marines do not use the Seahawk, they use the Huey and several other helicopters. I was playing a very fun, pretty realistic (not as realistic as ARMA 2) Battlefield 2. In the game the Marines use Navy Seahawks. I know this isn't correct but it makes me wonder, would the USMC ever use the Seahawk for transport or other missions? Since i'm positive that Seahawks are on Ships along with Marine helicopters.
